The major selling point of Kaze is its low-key ambience and beautifully tasteful décor. This Chinatown restaurant offers fresh shabu-shabu with a stellar variety of meat and fish. Great place for a group gathering and the perfect spot for a first date. Also, it's opened late (until 3am on the weekends).

Don't let the shabby exterior fool you: This hole in the wall is Chinatown's best kept and most delicious secret. This reasonably priced Chinese food restaurant is known for its specialties including their yummy scallion pancakes and their top-tier Peking Duck (however, you must order it 24 hours in advance). King Fung Garden has been a Chinatown staple for more than 50 years with an extremely friendly and courteous staff. If you have trouble deciding what to order, owners Irwin and Doris Mei will gladly help you out. Also, in an area with less-than-stellar restrooms, King Fung has some of the cleanest and well-kept washrooms in Chinatown.

In a neighborhood dominated by Cantonese cuisine, this Shanghai-style outpost is a hidden gem found near the traditional Chinatown Gate on Beach Street. Wing’s Kitchen is small hole in the wall but their food packs a punch. Try their authentic General Gau’s Chicken or their braised whole fish with scallion.

The best Chinese fondue restaurant in Chinatown, hands down. Heaping plates of veggies, seafood, or meats are brought to the table for you to indulge in. Great prices and always busy. Beware, you might have to wait for a table! The restaurant is obviously not fully vegan/vegetarian, but makes a tasty meal if you are either of those. The fruit shakes are also a treat.

East Ocean City's attentive waitstaff and upscale décor makes it one of the snazziest spots in Chinatown. The beautiful traditional landscapes gracing the walls might be one reason for the relatively high prices, but the food is just as beautiful and traditional, and in-the-know patrons are willing to shell out a little extra for it. The restaurant specializes in seafood, featuring unusual dishes like yu xiang scallops ($16.50) and fried crisp softshell crabs with spicy salt ($20), but its vegetarian selection is also strong. The stir-fried Japanese egg tofu with mixed vegetables ($12) appeals even to those who usually shy away from bean curd, and the Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce ($7.50) is sublime, cooked to perfect tenderness.

Dim sum is exciting for everyone, but speaking Chinese (or trying to) will help you fill your tummy with delicious trifles faster. Seriously, folks, drag your Chinese blockmate downtown to help you navigate your way through the mouthwatering offerings at China Pearl. Show up early (before 11:30am) on weekends to avoid a long wait in the glitzy mirror-lined staircase. Standard dim sum dishes, such as BBQ pork buns (cha siu bao), shrimp dumplings (har gau), and chicken feet run $2-7 a dish, but don't think about the cost—it's the rare visit that ends with a bill that's more than $10 per person. Save room for yummy, intriguingly textured desserts like the spoonable melon jellos and black bean buns. Dinner ($9-15) on weeknights is a whole other world; China Pearl feels like a deserted ballroom the night after the party.

There's no messing around at Chau Chow City—you arrive, you wait, you sit, you eat, you pay, and you leave. But you eat some of the best Chinese food and seafood in Boston, you eat a lot of it, and you leave with your dining budget well intact. The atmosphere is highly polished, crowded, and aquatic. A primarily local clientele dines between mirrored, marble walls and stacked tanks rife with displaced deep-sea dwellers. Although there's a limited menu until 4PM, the full menu lists over 300 well-sized entrees, averaging $8-15. The “Chef's Specialties” section is worth extra attention—but the discriminating diner will do well to ask a waiter for one of the kitchen's seasonal specials, like garlic-fried sea bass or soft-shelled crab. Reservations on weekends for parties of 6 or more. Also great for take-out, the food is ready to be picked up in about 20 minutes from when you place your order.

Tip: Tired of settling for pizza after closing down the clubs? The restaurant stays open until 4am.
