If you’re lucky enough to snag a seat at the Boston Opera House, you’ll be overwhelmed by the Edith Wharton-esque beauty and gilded opulence of one of the most sublime theaters in Boston. The opera house got its not-so-humble beginnings on Huntington Ave. in 1901. The current locale is the renovated B.F. Keith theater which was once a downtown hotspot for films and vaudeville shows. Now, after $30 million worth of touchups, the Grande Dame of Washington Street hosts Broadway-style musicals ranging from “Wicked” to an upcoming production of “A Chorus Line” (Sept. 11 until Oct. 5) followed by "Legally Blonde" (Oct. 28 to Sunday, Nov. 9). And starting with the 2009 season, the Opera house will be the proud resident stage of the Boston Ballet. Don't miss Boston Ballet's annual presentation of the Nutcracker during the holiday season, which opens on November 29th-Dec. 24th, 2008

This restaurant turned bar/dance club makes an ideal date spot, whether you're in the mood for dinner-and-a-movie (Loews Boston Common is just down the street) or bacchanalian revels (DJ F and Sa, 10pm-2am, 21+, $10 cover). Appetizers ($7-11) include cilantro ginger calamari, a Mediterranean tapas plate, and a Thai style chicken tenders plate ($8). Entrees ($11-22) range from seafood to salads; the filet mignon ($22) is a must-have meal, though other options, like the Pizza Special of the day ($12), are just as delectable. West Street Grille's reliably good food, excellent service, and soothing décor will undoubtedly please.

The Last Hurrah, Omni Parker House?s fabled bar, has been the gathering place for Boston's colorful political pantheon for close to 150 years. Rogues, visionaries and villains sipped late-afternoon drinks at the Last Hurrah and hatched their plans to save the world, bilk it or escape it.
James Michael Curley, a larger-than-life politician who embodied all three characteristics, was a regular patron. In fact, the bar takes its name from Edwin O'Connor's 1956 Pulitzer-Prize-winning novel "The Last Hurrah," based on Curley's picturesque career. The Last Hurrah serves cocktails only.

With its flagship store originating in London in 1992, this Downtown Crossing newbie buys, sells and exchanges a wide range of products, generally in the electronic realm, including video games, DVDs, computers, digital electronics, music and mobile phones. CeX--or Complete Entertainment Exchange--is in essence a pawn shop for electronic goodies. Store credit is worth more than getting cash back but buyer beware: credit is given on a slip of paper and, if lost, CeX can't track the amount you're owed.

Good hearty Irish pub fare for a great price. Great pour on the Guiness too.
Ambience typical of a pub so no romantic dates here!
